Literacy Ladders

Literacy Ladders is a joint project of the Albert Shanker Institute, the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), and the Core Knowledge Foundation. The volume is a curated collection of essays on some of the policies and practices required to create an excellent early childhood education system for all children and on the research supporting them.

Except for the preface, which was written by the acclaimed reading researcher Marilyn Jager Adams expressly for this volume, all of the essays were previously published in American Educator, the AFT’s quarterly magazine of educational research and ideas. Most of the artwork in the volume was cheerfully created by the children of the AFT’s staff.
